Product Introduction

The Active Carbon Tower is an air pollution control facility that adsorbs high concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) onto activated carbon to remove them. This device inhales volatile organic compounds and passes them through the inside of the carbon-filled adsorption tower to eliminate them. It is particularly useful when the gaseous pollutants are non-combustible or when the concentration of pollutants is low, and it can also remove odors. Depending on the type and characteristics of the pollutants, adsorbents other than activated carbon, such as zeolite, silica gel, and alumina, can be used, making it applicable in various work environments.

Key Features

  • Uses a large amount of activated carbon to purify air

    • Physically and chemically absorbs and adsorbs VOCs and odors by passing them through equipment filled with activated carbon.
    • Activated carbon is a carbonaceous material made from the shells of palm fruits chemically and physically heat-treated at 600-900°C, having an internal surface area of about 1,200 m² per gram.
    • Due to its excellent adsorptive properties through its internal surface area, activated carbon is commonly used for air purification.

Key Design Factors

    • The design ensures that gases drawn into the adsorption tower pass through the activated carbon at an average velocity of 0.3-0.5 m/sec, ensuring that gases remain in contact with the activated carbon for at least 1.0 sec.
    • If dust, moisture, or corrosive substances are present in the gas, they are first removed in a separate pretreatment facility before being introduced into the adsorption tower.
    • If the temperature is high, desorption of the adsorbed pollutants from the activated carbon occurs, so if the gas temperature exceeds 54°C, it must be cooled below 40°C using a heat exchanger.
    • Adsorbents other than activated carbon can be used, selecting the appropriate one based on the type and characteristics of the gaseous pollutants.
